directed reality in the waiting room
‘Directed reality in the waiting room’(2017) photograph documenting an improvised performance which took place in the waiting room of the passport office in Guayaquil-Ecuador.
As I waited for hours and hours among other people for our passport request to be completed. I imagined a subtle action of individual agency within the burocratic system.
Within the waiting room there were three people waiting with a similar posture, creating an image through repetition. I approached other four people and asked if we could join them in that specific posture and create a choreography of waiting.
With the title I want to point out not only at the directions I gave for the improvised performance, but all the other elements that were already directing us, like the queue barriers, the security guard, and the rows of unidirectional chairs.
