2020-2021

‘Compost Compositions’ is a series of photos made with food scraps after cooking and just before feeding the scraps to my compost worms. I started this series in 2020 when Co-vid hit the world. In those moments Paula Hernandez, the person I was living with fled back to Ecuador. As I started to live in quarantine and isolation I developed attention to fruits, plants, vegetables and my worms as the most ‘living’ companions. Because my roommate was abroad, it also meant that I could use the house and the kitchen itself as a creative environment.

As people were asking when we would go ‘back to normal’ I was wondering also if we would ever go back. Where there some things that would be forever changed? Would we encounter new ways of arranging ourselves that we will like to keep after the emergency? for example the solidarity we developed.

‘Compost Compositions’ was a moment in time in the constant flow and transformation of organic matter. Arranging itself to look beautiful for the camera just before continuing towards decomposition and their trajectory of endless transformation.
